In 1932, “Ruhr express traffic” was founded in the Ruhr area. (RSV) opened on the Essen - Dortmund route. The trains, which are comparable to today's S-Bahn trains and were primarily hauled by class 38 and 78 steam locomotives, were initially given a distinctive cream/purple paint job. Four-axle, formerly Prussian compartment cars of the third class and the combined second and third class were used.

Fleischmann has recreated a typical train of that time, pulled by the class 78 tank locomotive with the typical sign &quot ;Ruhr express transport" on the front of the locomotive.
