Electric locomotive Re 420

It all started with the “Spanish rolls” to — a delicious pastry from the Swiss resort town of Baden. Of course, that's not entirely true, but on August 9, 1847, the first railway built in Switzerland from Zurich to Baden began its scheduled operation. Now the servants of the fine Zurich society could leisurely pick up the famous pastries that arrived on the train early in the morning and bring them to the Sunday breakfast table on time, without having to hike for hours Swim and go back. Therefore, the name “Spanish-Brötli-Bahn” soon emerged for this route. a. In the years that followed, a rail construction boom broke out in Switzerland, reaching a length of 2,457 km within 35 years. Finally, between 1902 and 1909, the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) were created through the nationalization of five large railway companies. As a result, an increasingly dense rail network spread across Switzerland, which is still used extensively today. After all, the Swiss have an absolute record in rail usage, with on average everyone traveling around 1,800 km by train per year. On the occasion of the memorable anniversary, the SBB is presenting an electric locomotive with a correspondingly eye-catching special design. The Re 420 251 (ex Re 4/4 II 11251) was chosen for this purpose, with this universally applicable series forming the mainstay of locomotive-hauled SBB traffic for decades and with 276 examples built between 1964 and 1985 also has the highest number of a series built for the Swiss Railways.
