Little things that perfect the route image on the layout.
Route telephones, also called signal telephones, were usually located near the entrance signals and were often housed in small corrugated iron houses.
In the steam locomotive era, switches and signals were set in mechanical signal boxes. The functions were transferred via control wires that had to be kept taut at all times. Tensioning systems in the signal box and on the route ensured this.
