Framo or rather Barkas??? In the years 1954-1961, the Barkas V901/2 small van was manufactured in the VEB Barkas-Werke Karl-Marx-Stadt (framo in Hainichen until 1956). Due to its origin, it was therefore more often called Framo V901/2 and was also referred to as such from 1956. While retaining the technology, the three-quarter ton Framo V901 of the former GDR vehicle manufacturer was externally redesigned in 1954 and further developed into the type V901/2.
Just like its predecessor, the popular small van was available in various versions Variants available, such as panel vans, semi-buses, buses, flatbed trucks and with special bodies for police, post offices and various commercial organizations. The top speed of the transporter, styled in the spirit of the 1950s, was 75-82 km/h. Although the van's domestic demand could not be met, it was still exported to Holland, Belgium, Finland and Hungary and demand could not be met there either. Due to the acute shortage of small vans, numerous V901/2s were still used in everyday life in the GDR even at the end of the 1980s. Worn or damaged vehicles could be repaired at short notice thanks to ongoing spare parts production and the tried and tested frame construction. A total of 25,604 units of the V901/2 were manufactured.
